El Museo Ashmolean de Arte y Arqueología de Oxford, inaugurado en 1683 y considerado el museo más antiguo del Reino Unido, ha reabierto sus puertas el 7 de noviembre de 2009 tras las obras de restauración proyectadas por el arquitecto Rick Mather (http://www.rickmather.com/). Las obras han supuesto una inversión de 68 millones de euros y han añadido 39 nuevas galerías.
The architect Rick Mather has designed a new six storey building, replacing all but the Grade I listed Cockerell building of the historic Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

The redevelopment cost £61m, doubling the existing gallery space, including 39 new galleries, a new education centre, state-of-the-art conservation studios, and Oxford's first rooftop restaurant. These changes mark the latest upgrades to the UK's oldest public museum, with its origins dating back to the early 17th Century.
The Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology opens to the public on Saturday 7 November.
